What is Search and Replace?
Search and Replace is a bulk text modification tool that finds and replaces specific words or phrases across product titles and descriptions. It maintains the original capitalization and placement of replaced words, making it ideal for upgrading generic terms to specific keywords (e.g., "Dress" to "Evening Gown") or fixing imported product descriptions.
The tool includes frequency-based replacement controls, allowing you to replace every match or only 1 out of every 2, 3, or 4 matches. You can also create internal links to related products/collections or external links to add value. Replacements apply to published products, draft products, or all products based on your selection.

Getting Started
Products › Search and ReplaceNavigate to Search and Replace
Go to Products › Search and Replace from the main navigation
Configure Search Settings
Enter Find Exact Words, Replace With Words, select field (titles/descriptions), and choose replace frequency
Test on Single Product
Click UPDATE A PRODUCT to test on one item first and verify results
Apply to All Products
After confirming results, click UPDATE ALL PRODUCTS to process in bulk
Important Settings
Replace Frequency
Control how often matches are replaced: every match, or 1 out of 2/3/4 matches. Useful for keyword density control.
Start From First Match
Toggle to begin replacements from the first match on each product (vs random starting position based on frequency)
Replace Type
Choose "words" to replace text, or "link" to add clickable links to matching keywords for navigation
Product Status Filter
Apply changes to all products, only published products, or only draft products
Use With Caution
Changes Cannot Be Undone
This tool permanently modifies product titles and descriptions. There is no automatic undo or restore function. Once you click UPDATE ALL PRODUCTS, the text replacements are written directly to your product data and cannot be reversed automatically. Always test on single products first before bulk processing.
Test Before Bulk Processing
Use UPDATE A PRODUCT to test your find/replace settings on a single item first. Verify the results in Shopify admin and on your store page. Check that capitalization, placement, and replacement frequency work as expected before applying to all products.
Verify Your Implementation
Shopify Admin Verification
Go to Products in Shopify admin and open a recently updated product. Check the title and description fields to confirm text replacements were applied correctly with proper capitalization.
Store Page Check
Visit the actual product page on your live store site. Verify that the replaced keywords appear correctly in product titles and descriptions as shown to customers.
Link Functionality Test
If you added links to keywords, click the linked text on your store pages to ensure links navigate to the correct internal or external URLs.
